Matthew Meyers became Of Counsel to Young, Berman, Karpf & Karpf in 2023. After having been tried and tested in both State and Federal Courts, Mr. Meyers is equipped to handle any criminal defense, domestic violence, property damage, and family law needs a client may have. 

After interning for a Circuit Court judge in Orlando, Mr. Meyers fell in love with the courtroom. Upon his graduation from law school and admission to practice, Matt began his career in the Domestic Violence Unit of the 11th Circuit State Attorney’s Office for Miami-Dade County, where he later rose to a supervisory level. From 2009 until 2013, Mr. Meyers prosecuted and conducted jury trials for cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies, including domestic violence, DUI, and drug possession, to armed robbery, drug trafficking, and homicide. Throughout his tenure with the Miami-Dade SAO, Mr. Meyers was assigned to specialized units including Domestic Violence, Felony Trial, Traffic Homicide, Parole Hearings, and Human Trafficking. Matt assisted in active law enforcement investigations, made filing determinations, and tried cases to verdict in front of juries of 6 or 12 people. 

Since 2013, Matt has operated as a solo practitioner in criminal defense, domestic violence, and representing home and business owners against their insurance companies in their claims for property damage. 

As a defense attorney, Mr. Meyers, has represented clients facing criminal charges in State and Federal courts in South Florida, across the State, and federal jurisdictions outside of the State of Florida. Matt has received successful results for people charged with everything from minor crimes such as Driving While License Suspended and theft, to the most serious offenses including drug trafficking and murder. Mr. Meyers has successfully defeated the death penalty in federal court, sparring the life – and freedom – of his clients. 

Matt has spent countless hours representing his clients in Domestic Violence matters, in both civil and criminal courts. Because an injunction carries many collateral consequences, it requires the same skill and tenacity as if it were a criminal charge. In representing these clients, Mr. Meyers has gained valuable experience in marital and family related matters including divorce, paternity, and timesharing,

In representing homeowners, Mr. Meyers has been successful in recovering hundreds of thousands of dollars for his clients. Whether he assists the client in making the claim from the outset, or if he comes in later to fight a denial or underpayment, Mr. Meyers is skilled in fighting insurance companies to recover every dollar owed to his clients.

Matt is active within the legal community, having served as 2020-21 President of the Miami Chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (FACDL), and has been on the Board of Directors for the statewide FACDL organization since 2016. Mr. Meyers is a member of the Miami Dade Bar and Criminal Law and Family Law Sections of the Florida Bar, and is the recipient of numerous awards including the Cystic Fibrosis Top 40 Under 40 Award for 2018, National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 yearly since 2014, and the 2019 President’s Award for FACDL-Miami. 

Mr. Meyers has spoken at numerous Bar events on the topics of Professionalism, Criminal Defense, and Domestic Violence. He is admitted to practice in the State of Florida, Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. While not practicing, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, dog, and watching football.
